SOP of Light Intensity in Building and Facility

OBJECTIVE

To lay down the procedure for measurement & monitoring of Light Intensity in the Building & facility.

SCOPE:

This CSOP is applicable for Lux Level monitoring in the building & facility. This procedure is applicable to Kshitij Pharma  Solutions .

RESPONSIBILITY:

Area Incharge:

To prepare list of location & measuring points for Lux monitoring

To intimate Engineering Department for Lux monitoring

Engineering Head:

Responsible to provide the area details (in square meter) to Area Incharge.

Responsible to verify and maintain the Lux level/Light Intensity as applicable in the respective area as per requirement.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Head -QA

Head- QA shall be accountable for implementation and compliance of this SOP.

PROCEDURE:

Definition:

Light Intensity:

Light intensity is referred as brightness and amount of light produced by a source. Standard unit of light intensity is Lux and it is measured by using an instrument called Lux Meter.

Lux:

A measurement of 1 lux is equal to the illumination of a one meter square surface that is one meter away from a single candle.

Light intensity shall be checked at the operational height in the area about one meter from the ground.

Light intensity is measured by using an instrument called “LUX METER”.

Light intensity shall be measured at different locations and average of all readings shall be considered as final light intensity of the area/room.

Number of Locations for determination of Light Intensity:

Location & measuring points shall be prepared as per Annexure-l following the below criteria.

If the total size of facility/area/room found less than or equal to 50 M2 then Number of measuring points will be 2.

If the total size of facility/area/room found more than 50 M2 or equal to 100 M2 then Number of measuring points will be 4.

If the total size of facility/area/room found more than 100 M2 or equal to 200 M2 then Number of measuring points will be 6.

If the total size of facility/area/room found more than 200 M2 then Number of measuring points will be 8.

Recommended Lux Level in the facility / area / Rooms:

  • Material Storage Area   NLT150
  • Laboratories Testing/Sampling NLT 250
  • Production (Inside the rooms) NLT 250
  • Production (Outside the rooms) NLT 150
  • Office/computer work station  NLT 250

Operation of Lux Meter:

Ensure lux meter should be calibrated & master calibrator certification is available.

Ensure the number of location to be measured lux level as per Annexure -II.

 Switch “ON” the lux meter.

Hold the light sensor at 1 meter height from ground level facing towards light Slide the switch, on hold position (As applicable or position of Meter as per Make / Model of Lux meter) and record the reading in Annexure -II.

Measure the lux level and calculate the average lux level.

Average value should not be less than acceptance criteria as mentioned in the Annexure-II.

Frequency for monitoring of lux level shall once in a year in the respective area & Lux level monitoring schedule shall be prepared in the month of December for next year.

Area Incharge shall intimate to Engineering, in case any change in the existing facility/area/room that could impact on light intensity then changes shall be updated in the schedule & accordingly frequency shall be decided after monitoring of lux level in the respective area.

If in case new facility / area / room is prepared / installed then after measurement of light intensity, schedule shall be updated for inclusion of respective area.
